Previously, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes added 168 runs before England lost four wickets in the afternoon session of day four. The duo dominated the Indian bowling taking the attack to the opposition. While Stokes was a bit tame, Buttler went after the bowling to bring his maiden century in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, England was on the verge of defeat on the morning session itself after losing four wickets quickly.

India now needs only one wicket to come back in the series and make it 2-1 in favour of England.

• Jasprit Bumrah (20) now has the most wickets by an Indian paceman after four Tests. Venkatesh Prasad and Munaf Patel had 19 wickets each after four Tests.

• For the first time in the history of Test cricket, two players from the same side – Rishabh Pant & KL Rahul – has taken six catches each in the same match.

• Only Jack Hobbs and Graham Gooch had scored as many 70-plus scores as Jos Buttler – five – for England before scoring his maiden Test 100. Gooch ended with 20 and Hobbs with 15 hundred.

• Ishant Sharma now has dismissed Alastair Cook 11 times in Test cricket. This the second most number of time an Indian bowler has dismissed an opposition batsman. Kapil Dev tops the list with 12 wickets of Mudassar Nazar.
