ENG VS IND 2018: England All Set to Play Their 1000th Test Match

England will be achieving some kind of a milestone while playing their 1000th Test match when they take the field in the first of the five-match Test series against India commencing on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

The Three Lions’ team will become the first team ever to achieve this feat in the history of cricket. After England, the Australian team is placed second to have played most number of Test matches with 812 matches.

With 535 Tests, the Windies are at number three. Furthermore, Team India is at number four position with 522 Tests.

England played their first-ever Test match in 1877 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). James Lillywhite (Jr) was the skipper of the first Test side that clashed with the Aussies.

Since then, England have played 999 Tests and subsequently registered a winning percentage of 35.73. They have won 357 matches, lost 297 and drawn 345.

Meanwhile, there will be a gruelling competition between both the teams in the upcoming series. Although they have some poor performances in the Tests series, England are a tough side to beat at home.

In the last 10 bilateral series, they have emerged victorious in four, while they were on losing side in three and three ended in a draw.

Hosts skipper Joe Root and prominent batsman Jos Buttler will be the key for English Team with the bat. Both are in terrific form and are likely to trouble the Indian bowlers.

Veteran Alastair Cook also announced his arrival at the right hammering 180 runs in an unofficial four-day Test against India A.

England’s bowling strength resides mainly in James Anderson and Stuart Broad. They have also included Adil Rashid following his good run in the limited-overs cricket. And to play an overall 1000th Test match, England would be aiming to finish the Edgbaston Test on a high.
