ToggleFollowing a phenomenal success in his first tour to England, Kuldeep Yadav has generated a lot of interest in English circles. The left-arm Chinaman had a grand tour so far in the limited-overs game which includes a six-for and a five-for as well. However, former English wicketkeeper-batsman Alec Stewart lauds his spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin.
A difference in the opinion
Stewart is of the different opinion. The former skipper of England believes Test format is entirely different from that of shorter format. He added the young bowler in Kuldeep would not be enjoying the luxury of field setting.
Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja over Kuldeep Yadav
The former skipper backed Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He feels Kuldeep will not be enjoying if he pips the seasoned Ashwin in playing XI.
“I am a massive fan of Ashwin, and he is an impressive performer. Jadeja has had some success against England as well. But if someone has got mystery, you might want to play him,” Stewart told PTI in an interview.
A go-to Kuldeep Yadav:
Stewart further reiterated being an attacking captain, Kohli will love to go with Kuldeep. He noted Virat would be of the opinion that pitch will offer more to left-arm chinaman in comparison to Ashwin and Jadeja.
“Virat, as a captain, is very positive and will back an attacking bowler,” he added.
Stewart further remarked that Kuldeep has to show the replica of white-ball performance while having the red-ball in his hand.
Veteran Alec Stewart said that decoding Kuldeep will have a bearing on the Test series. Earlier, Joe Root was successful to decipher Yadav in limited-overs format of the game.
“A mystery spinner creates doubts if you haven’t faced much of him, and it makes for great cricket when the batsmen are trying to figure out from 18-22 yards, which way it will go. But England, especially Joe Root, started to work out Kuldeep since Lord’s and the question is how Kuldeep is going to bowl in Test cricket,” Stewart said
