India’s latest poor performance in yet another overseas Test seems to have caused problems aplenty for the players and the team–management. The BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (COA) have reportedly taken note of India’s poor performance in the ongoing England vs India series. According to report, the Vinod Rai-led committee has already contacted head coach Ravi Shastri to have a word in this matter.

Hopes were sky high from the current Indian side. The way the team had performed in the limited-overs series and gave England a run for their money in the first Test, many speculated that the series will be closely fought. However, India failed to live up to the expectations as they lost the second game by an innings and 159 runs.

For the fourth innings in a row, the batsmen faltered in tough conditions. The hosts now lead the five-match series two nil. Unlike the first Test at Edgbaston, the bowlers also failed to make an impression. As a result, England thoroughly dominated the proceedings at Lord’s.

Very few would have predicted that the game would end inside four days after the first day was washed out and the game was marred by several other rain-interruptions. But the failure of batsmen saw England cruise to a thumping win.

In the first innings, India were all out for just 107 with James Anderson taking 5 for 20. In reply, England scored a mammoth 396 for 7 to put the game beyond India’s reach. And the visitors did little to challenge England.

Trailing by a huge 289 runs, draw was the only option for India. However, it took England less than two sessions to bundle up the world number one Test side. India never looked in contention to save the game and were all out for just 130.

And the latest performance seems to have landed coach Shastri in hot waters. According to report, the COA has asked Shastri why the team fared poorly despite being given all the facilities they wanted.

“The COA has already mentioned this to Ravi Shastri, that after having sent the team so much in advance, allowing adequate preparation time (in English conditions), this kind of performance from the top order is not encouraging at all.

“The Committee has also mentioned in its communication that they need to discuss this with the head coach. When the team returns, the CoA will have a meeting with the selectors at the first opportunity to discuss some of the procedures,” sources told The Indian Express.

The COA had earlier faced criticism after Indian Test players complained against the lack of preparation time before the South Africa Test series earlier this year. As a result, the officials made sure to send the team well in advance this time around. However, so far it has not shown the desired result.
