Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag stated England skipper Joe Root’s run out owing to a moment of brilliance by his counterpart, Virat Kohli is the ‘turning point’ of day one of the first Test at Edgbaston.

Meanwhile, the bowlers did an exceptional to bring back India into the game. Ravichandran Ashwin returned with four wickets while Mohammed Shami contributed with two. The Indian bowlers were unplayable during the session after tea as England lost back-to-back wickets.

However, England started off well and dominated the morning session. Despite Cook departing cheaply, skipper Root and young gun Keaton Jennings steadied the English innings. They added 72 runs for the second wicket before Jenning departed in an unlucky fashion followed by Dawid Malan.

Since then, Root and Jonny Bairstow stitched a crucial partnership for the fourth wicket. The pair added 103 runs playing according to the merit of the delivery. Eventually, Root brought his 12th consecutive Test half-centuries against India but got out following a sheer brilliance from Kohli in the field.

Bairstow also followed shortly and England crumbled down quite easily. However, India gave away two chance on the very first day of the series which will keep them worried. They struggled due to their poor fielding the last time they toured England in 2014.

Virender Sehwag sums up Day one:

The swashbuckling opener from Delhi summed up India’s day one of the first of the five-match Test series at Edgbaston. Sehwag admitted that it was a good beginning for India in the Test series.

Virender Sehwag also noted that Ashwin and Shami were absolutely brilliant with the ball. However, termed the wicket of Joe Root has brought India right into the game.

A very good beginning to the test series for India. Ashwin bowled beautifully and so did Shami and that brilliant run out of Root by Kohli was the turning point of the day. From 216-3, Eng 285-9. May we carry the momentum with the bat tomorrow and dominate England #ENGvIND,” Sehwag tweeted.
