The rise of Ravichandran Ashwin in Tests can be directly proportional to the success rate of Virat Kohli as a skipper. Over the years, the Tamil Nadu cricketer transformed himself into a match-winner for India.
Ashwin’s remarkable success in the last couple of years helped India to attain the number one position in Tests. Meanwhile, he added yet another feather to his illustrious hat.

Ashwin is second quickest to reach 200 wickets under a certain skipper –
Having made his debut under MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin’s best came under Virat Kohli’s captaincy which worked like magic for Indian cricket.
The off-spinner scalped 109 wickets under MS Dhoni’s captaincy while nine wickets under Ajinkya Rahane while playing against Afghanistan and Australia. The other five wickets came when he played under Virender Sehwag. In total, Ashwin scalped 323 wickets to his name thus far. He achieved the feat when he dismissed England’s skipper Joe Root with his trickery on day three of the Edgbaston Test against England.

Meanwhile, the off-spinner becomes the second quickest to achieve the feat alongside Shane Warne who took 34 innings to reach 200 wickets under a single captain. Shane Warne did it when he played under Ricky Ponting.
The quickest to achieve the feat is Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan who did it in just 30 matches. He reached it under all-time great, Sanath Jayasuriya’s captaincy.
Malcolm Marshall has registered the next best along with Allan Donald and Dale Steyn under the captaincy of Vivian Richards, Hansie Cronje and Graeme Smith, respectively.
However, it has been quite a journey for Ravichandran Ashwin under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. During the course, he also bagged several accolades.
