England Star Jonny Bairstow Creates History In T10 League

England star Jonny Bairstow entered the record books by smashing the record for the highest individual score in the ongoing T10 League in UAE.

Jonny Bairstow made his presence felt in the T10 League with a stunning knock for Kerala Knights against Bengal Tigers. The right-handed batsman smashed a remarkable 84 off just 24 balls, helping Kerala Knights beat Bengal Tigers by seven wickets with eight balls to spare.

Bairstow, who scored a century on his return to the England Test team against Sri Lanka last week, struck six fours and eight sixes  during his knock. In doing so, he smashed the record for the highest individual score in the tournament. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad previously held the record for his 74 from 16 balls.

At one stage it looked like Bairstow would score the first-ever century in T10 cricket. However, he ran out of runs to score, as Kerala hunted down the Tigers’ target of 124 with eight balls to spare.

Bairstow arrived at crease at 12 for 2 after nine balls. He struck two of his first three balls, from Mohammad Nabi, for four, and didn’t look back, smashing his last fifty runs from 14 balls.

The knock was a remarkable effort from Bairstow considering he had only signed up for the squad three days ago. Prior to that, Bairstow had a bitter-sweet stay in Sri Lanka where injury sidelined him for the first two Tests. He eventually returned to the team for the third Test and scored a century to help his side register a historic 3-0 whitewash.

Meanwhile, the latest knock could also help Bairstow earn an IPL deal. The wicketkeeper-batsman is yet to get a taste of the IPL. With the auction just a fortnight away, the knock might land him his first IPL contract.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
