As expected the clash between England vs India came down to the wire at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Both the sides displayed their top-notch cricket to stay themselves in the game throughout the gruelling match.
Meanwhile, India is on verge of breaking the 32-year old record on day four of the game. However, the victory is the only final step left for India to achieve it. Meantime, the loss will make them wait for one more tour.
India never won a 1st match of the series when they toured England after 1986:
It was under Haryana’s lad, Kapil Dev’s captaincy when India won the first game of the series in 1986. The skipper led from the front to push India to the victory with a Man of the Match performance.

Dev displayed his all-round performance to thump Dawid Gower-led England at historic Lord’s cricket ground. Eventually, India returned with a series victory after thumping hosts again at Headingley.
After those heroics in 1986, India never won the first game of the series in England. However, the ongoing Test match is the golden chance for Virat Kohli-led side to break the stretch.
Statistically, India played 17 times in England in which they managed to win only once. Surprisingly, India lost 13 times while the remaining three times have drawn.

A golden opportunity:
Meanwhile, it is a great chance for India to halt the stretch of an unwanted record. Currently, India required 84 runs to the victory with five wickets in the hand.
More importantly, they have got their best chaser, Kohli on the crease alongside the comeback cricketer Dinesh Karthik. The rest of the hopes well rely on Hardik Pandya who plays well in those pressure moments.
However, it would be interesting to see how the things would pan out on the penultimate day of the England Vs India Test. All in all, a quality show is on the platter at Edgbaston.
