Shikhar Dhawan yet again got himself off to a steady start for India but gave away his wicket to a similar way in Southampton Test. He has been criticised time and again for edging deliveries outside the off stump in England.
However, he didn’t go for the expansive drive. It was a delivery which was closer to the stumps, and he got tempted to poke at that. The catch was completed quite easily by wicket-keeper Jos Buttler behind the stumps.
The southpawDhawan struck a couple of good shots. It was evident that he had made some technical changes in his batting which brought his downfall in the opening and the third Test respectively.
The senior batsman didn’t drive the ball and played more with a close blade. Maybe it didn’t look pleasing to the eyes, but he made sure he did some changes.
However, it wasn’t enough to save his wicket as Stuart Broad dismissed him by an away swinging delivery outside the off stump channel.
Shikhar Dhawan again got off to a good start:
For yet another time he got off to a start and then gave away his wicket. Dhawan would rue his missed opportunity once again. He has to start scoring runs more consistently in overseas conditions.
The starts they are providing is at present not enough to win India matches. However, there is no doubt about the fact that he is a brilliant batsman and is very pleasing to the eyes.
After getting off to a good start, the Indian openers fell cheaply. Both Dhawan and KL Rahul struck some gorgeous shots to share a 39 runs stand before Stuart Broad dismissed Rahul.
Dhawan was also dismissed soon after by the same bowler. From there on, it was a great partnership between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara which got India right back into the game.
Kohli gave away his wicket to Sam Curran trying to poke at a delivery outside the off stump.
Following the dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane has come out to the crease. At the stroke of tea, India lost wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.
