Team India speedster Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be back in the Indian playing XI for the third Test against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
In all likelihood, Umesh Yadav will face the axe yet again. However, it will be interesting to see whether India goes with three frontline pacers or not.
Kuldeep Yadav couldn’t make an impression in an overcast Lord’s even having the back of skipper Virat Kohli, according to Ajinkya Rahane.
There is no doubt about the fact that changes will be made. India is currently trailing 0-2 in the five-match series. They were blown away by the home team by an innings and 159 runs at Lord’s to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
The visiting team needs to put up an inspired performance in the next three Tests to harbour hopes of saving the match.
Jasprit Bumrah might get a place in the third Test:
The inclusion of Bumrah might mean that Umesh won’t get to add to his only Test in England. He was sharp at Edgbaston but lacked consistency. He doesn’t have the backing of the team management.
Umesh was omitted from the playing XI in all the three Tests in South Africa where the conditions were ideally suited for his style of bowling.
England Vs India: Umesh Yadav was the scapegoat in Lord’s –
Despite overseas conditions in Lord’s. India went with Kuldeep in place of Umesh. The move proved to be disastrous as the English batters milked Kuldeep for runs quite efficiently.
Meanwhile, vice-captain Rahane said that it is up to the captain and the coach to take a call on the team selection. He feels that Kohli has backed Kuldeep and should continue doing so.
“The answer to your question will be, I feel, when Kuldeep gets four/five wickets tomorrow, it’ll be completely different. But see, it’s about what captain and coach (Ravi Shastri) think. In the end, it’s the captain’s decision. And I felt Virat is backing Kuldeep and we’ll have to wait and see,” Rahane stated.
Kuldeep ended up bowling only nine overs in the match out of the 88.1 overs the hosts faced. Ashwin was the other spinner in the XI who ended up bowling 17 overs.
Meanwhile, Rahane had led the time for a substantial period as he was recuperating from the injury which he sustained during the match.
