While answering the question about Ajit Wadekar who recently passed away, Illingworth said that he was a difficult player to dislodge.

He noted that Wadekar had ample resources at that time that helped India to win first Test series in England.
On being asked can India repeat the same, the former skipper of England said that there are two different times and two different eras.

He said that his team should have wrapped up the series by 2-0, but they felt helpless before the spin wizards of India. However, he said that in this era it is India’s pace attack that is doing the job for them.

He praised Indian bowling line-up and gave credits to Dennis Lillee who for a while instructed Indian speedsters at MRF Pace Foundation. Ray said it is pleasing to see Indian bowlers clocking around 145 consistently and hailed the fitness standards of the Indian team.
