If you look at the history of cricket, then there would be hardly any opening pair in the 50-over format that would match the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

One of the most entertaining duos to grace the game, Sourav and Sachin’s friendship goes back to their U-15 days. Both knew each other as kids and have forged a camaraderie between themselves from a tiny age.

Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar had gone together to the MRF Pace Academy. Thank God, they were advised by Dennis Lillee to give up pace bowling. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have got arguably the most excellent opening pair in ODI cricket across the globe.

During a show named ‘Breakfast with Champions’ with Gaurav Kapoor, Ganguly revealed quite a few childhood memories with Sachin Tendulkar. He recalled the day when as a 14-year-old Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli had poured several buckets of water in his room. Ganguly recalled that he and his roommate were sleeping during the afternoon time.

It was a camp in which both the teenagers were attending. Ganguly recalled when he woke up he thought the pipe inside the bathroom had broken. However, it was only after opening the main door that he realized it was Tendulkar and Kambli who poured the bucket of water.

When Ganguly asked what the issue was, Sachin said why he would sleep in the afternoon. He then asked Ganguly to go out for a tennis ball cricket session.

Tendulkar would bat all day during the camp, says Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly further stated during the camp Tendulkar would literally bat all day. The manager of the camp Vasu Paranjape had to force him out of the nets by saying the camp is there for other kids.

Ganguly then relieved the memories of Tendulkar’s sleepwalking habit. He has seen the champion batsman very closely and has seen different changes as he grew up.

He further revealed how Tendulkar woke up at 2 am in the night before his exceptional 148 against Australia in Sydney. When Ganguly asked him to sleep, as he would be batting early tomorrow morning, Tendulkar said it is his adrenaline rush which isn’t allowing him to sleep. Ganguly was part of the Indian squad during the tour but could only play a solitary ODI match.
