England vs India 2018, Third ODI - Statistical Preview

The ODI series is set for a thrilling finish as its outcome will be decided in the third and final game on Tuesday. The three-match series is currently locked at 1-1.

England bounced back pretty well in the second game after the heavy 8-wicket loss in the series-opener. Almost everything clicked for the hosts as they thrashed India by 86 runs to level the series. Batting first, they scored a daunting 322 for 7 on a tough Lord’s track. The bowlers then joined the party by bowling out India for 236.

So while England will be looking to make the most of the momentum, India will be keen to get back to winning ways and win the series.

And as the teams gear up for the decider, here is a statistical preview.

1. India and England have so far played 98 ODIs between them. It is the second most for England against any side. England have only played more ODIs (147) against Australia.

2. India enjoys a win-loss ratio of 1.325 against England (53 wins, 40 defeats). It is their their 2nd-best against any side against whom they have 75 or more ODIs. They have a ratio of 1.607 against Sri Lanka.

3. If India win the game, it will be their fifth consecutive bilateral series win overseas. The Men in Blue have never achieved this feat in the past. As of now, their longest series-winning streak overseas is 4, from 2008-09 to 2009. India’s current run includes 3-0 in Zimbabwe (2016), 3-1 in West Indies (2017), 5-0 in Sri Lanka (2017), and 5-1 in South Africa (2017-18).

4. Dhoni (1,462) needs 62 runs to become the highest scorer in India-England matches. The record is currently held by Yuvraj Singh (1,523). The highest run-getter for England is Ian Bell (1,163).

5. Kuldeep Yadav needs two more wickets to complete 11 wickets in the series, a record by an Indian for a series of 3 or fewer matches. The record is currently held by Narendra Hirwani, who had taken 10 in the 1987-88 Sharjah Cup. Mustafizur Rahman holds the world record. The left-arm pacer had picked up 13 wickets during his debut series against India in 2015.

6. Kuldeep, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal need 2, 5, and 5 wickets respectively to reach the 50-wicket mark.

7. Kuldeep has picked up 48 wickets in 22 ODIs so far. In case, the chinaman picks up two more in the upcoming game, he will be the joint-2nd quickest to 50 ODI wickets, in 23 ODIs, along with Ajit Agarkar and Mitchell McClenaghan. The record lies with Ajantha Mendis, who had reached there in a phenomenal 19 ODIs.
