Hosts England began the 3rd day’s play on 6/0. Openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings started off the innings for England as they were still trailing the visiting team by 21 runs. Both the openers needed some runs behind them as they have to struggle for runs in the recent past. Both Jennings and Cook has been short of run in the series so far. The duo added 18 more runs to the total before Alastair Cook edged a full-length delivery from Jasprit Bumrah straight to Kl Rahul in the slips. He almost made a mess of it but held on to it eventually in the 3rd attempt.

Moeen Ali was promoted up the batting order after his wonderful all-round performance in the 1st innings. The southpaw was dismissed cheaply by Ishant Sharma soon after. It was a delivery moving away from the left-hander and he managed to edge it to the slip cordon. Yet again it was KL Rahul who took a sensational low catch to reduced the hosts to 33/2.

India bowled well

It was some good pressure being exerted by the Indian bowlers on the English batters. Ravichandran Ashwin started off quite brilliantly. However, both Joe Root and Keaton Jennings played him very well. Jennings, in particular, struck consecutive boundaries of the exceptional off-spinner. He struck a brilliant reverse sweep and complemented it with another conventional sweep shot.

Joe Root also looked in good touch and struck a few delightful shots in the process. Both gained in confidence from each shot. However it as Mohammed Shami who bagged the wicket of Keaton Jennings in the final delivery before lunch. It was a delivery which kept low and came back quite sharply that hit Jennings underneath the bat. It was a timely wicket for India as the duo looked to take the game away from the visitors.
