After the humiliating loss at their own chasing den at Wanders, South Africa had to come up with a spirited performance to make a series out of it. Putting into bat, the visitors came up with yet another sizzling performance.
Dhawan and Suresh Raina started off with the proceedings with an early blitz. India lost few wickets in clumps but it was MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey who came to India’s rescue. The men in blue had to restrict the home team below 189 to clinch the T20I series.
With threat of rain looming around the game at every instant, the Proteas constantly had to look at DLS par scores. The hosts lost a couple of wickets within the powerplay before their hero Heinrich Klaasen came into the middle.
The dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman scored in all part of the ground which dismantled the Indian bowlers. Klaasen, along with JP Duminy, helped South Africa chase down the required total with 6 wickets in hand and more than an over to go.
The series is now tied at 1-all, with the series decider at Cape Town.
Klaasen scored 69 off just 30 balls at a whopping strike rate of 230, consisting of 7 jaw-dropping sixes. He was awarded the man of the match for his efforts in front of his home-town.
“Pretty special, especially at my home ground. It’s what you dream of as a young kid. DIdn’t get such a surface last season with the Titans franchise. You’ve got to put the bowler under pressure. If you’re a one-dimensional player, these guys will figure you out. Comfortable with where my game is at the moment. Enjoying my cricket for the last year and a half,” stated Heinrich Klaasen during the post-match presentation.
