What is the point of playing Virat again and again when you can easily afford to play promising rookie Gill against a village in a pointless series? pic.twitter.com/zIXIbWfiXi

Disappointed to not see Shubman Gill selected for either of the three formats. Now is the time to build for the future, and look past Kedar, Kartik etc. https://t.co/HUZ7EcoXc2

No Shubman Gill. 34-year-old Kedar Jadhav retained. Makes sense? Not to us. #BCCI #India #Squad #ODI #ShubmanGill #kedarjadhav https://t.co/EoGiVCC5RE

Gill hade made it to the ODI squad earlier this year after KL Rahul was suspended along with Hardik Pandya. He played two ODIs on the tour of New Zealand where he scored 16 runs. Gill has later dropped from the ODI squad with World Up just a few months away and KL Rahul also making his comeback.
However, with India starting a rebuilding process now Gill was expected to make a comeback but that wasn’t the case. The decision to ignore Gill was the biggest surprise from the selection meeting.
Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey made their comebacks to the national side after waiting for their chances for long. Both the players will now make a case to grab a spot in the middle-order and are expected to be given a longer run. They have also been named in the T20I squad.
Unsurprisingly, there was no MS Dhoni in the squad as the news regarding him taking a break was already out. There is no news regarding his retirement for now and he might return for the home series in the month of September.
India play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches on the tour of West Indies next month.
