Former Proteas Player Hira Jairam Passes Away

The former South African player, Hira Jairam has passed away on Monday, 24 June. Therefore, the Cricket South African paid their tribute to the ex-cricketer.

The former Transvaal player took his last breath at his home in Lenasia. In fact, Hira immigrated to South Africa as a child in the year 1942. Meanwhile, he lived in downtown in Johannesburg. However, the Group Areas act forced his family to move to Lenasia.

Hira was a fine off-spinner in the domestic circuit of South African cricket. He played for Zenith and went on to end his career while playing for Hinds Cricket Club.

Cricket South Africa also paid their condolences to Hira’s family. “On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and his many cricketing colleagues,” commented CSA Acting CEO Thabang Moroe.

In fact, his best performance came in the year 1972. The off-break bowler scalped six wickets while conceding only 48 runs against Natal. Furthermore, he also once took seven wickets for two runs in a club match.

Interestingly, Hira bowled at a higher pace, and he was also accurate with his line and length. In the eight first-class matches, he scalped 24 wickets at an average of 24.25.

Meanwhile, South Africa is all set to embark on the tour of Sri Lanka. Proteas will play two Test matches, five ODIs and one T20I on the Lankan tour.
