India as a cricketing nation is always known to produce quality batters. However, in the recent past, their top order hasn’t come good especially in conditions outside the subcontinent. The opening woes of Team India, in particular, has given quite a few headaches to the captain and the coach and the management in a nutshell.

Whenever they have travelled abroad, the openers have not been able to prove their worth. Shikhar Dhawan over the years has impressed in the home and subcontinental conditions.

However, he has not been able to replicate his form in overseas conditions. The top order woes have not allowed India to live up to the tag of the No. 1 team in the world.

Now, without wasting any time let us have a look at four opening batsmen who can solve the problems for Team India at the top of the order

Mayank Agarwal:

The right-handed opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has been around the national selection radar for quite a while now.

Despite not being able to break into the senior team yet, he is definitely within touching distance of receiving his maiden Test call-up. He has been scoring tons of runs for India A and also in the domestic circuit.

He came into the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the back of some exceptional performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

However, he was not able to replicate his form in the shortest format for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

Mayank is a technically sound batsman and has a wide range of shots in his array. He can play two different roles whenever the team demands. It will be interesting to see when Mayank breaks into the national squad.

Prithvi Shaw:

Prithvi Shaw, this young prodigy has been making all the headlines for his exceptional display of batsmanship. It was under his leadership that India won the Junior World Cup earlier in the year in New Zealand. He is a tremendous striker of the ball and looks a clone of a young Sachin Tendulkar.

Shaw is pretty steady with his strokeplay and has got the huge potential to become a superstar for India in the future.

Prithvi has already smashed six centuries for Mumbai in the domestic circuit. He joined the likes of his idol Tendulkar when he became the second player after the Little Master to score centuries in his debut of all major domestic tournaments.

Shaw was quite impressive for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the IPL. In the limited opportunities he got, he looked in great touch and smashed some top bowlers all over the ground.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul is already in the Indian team and has got enough experience under his belt. However, when both Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan has been around, he has hardly got any opportunities in his usual opening position.

Rahul is one of the finest Team India batsmen we have around and deserves to bat at the top of the order.

The Indian top order hasn’t been at their best and Rahul should be given a chance in the opening position. He played at No. 3 in the opening Test against England, before opening at Lord’s.

Rahul might well get his opportunity on a regular basis in the opening slot as the series progresses. Rahul has an abundance of talent, and the team management must give him a long run to see him succeed.

Hanuma Vihari was a part of the 2012 Under-19 India squad which won the World Cup under the captaincy of Unmukt Chand. He failed pretty poorly in the tournament and managed to score just 71 runs in six matches.

From there on he started rebuilding his career and made some subtle changes in his batting. It proved to be a great move as Vihari began to score runs on a consistent basis.

Currently, Vihari is in the selection radar for the national team with his exceptional performances for India A and in the domestic arena. He was quite impressive when India A toured England for an unofficial Test series.

Whom do you think would be the solution for tackling opening woes of Team India?
