Gary Kirsten, former South African opener and the 2011 World Cup-winning Team India coach, has thanked MS Dhoni for all the fond memories that he gave during his time as the coach of the Indian cricket team.

MS Dhoni called time on his international career with an Instagram post on Saturday, ending year-long speculations about his international future.

Gary Kirsten, who was Team India’s coach between 2008-11, took to Twitter, where he wrote-

Gary Kirsten and MS Dhoni shared a great captain-coach relationship throughout the former South African opener’s stint; so much so that Kirsten had once said that he would even to a war with MS Dhoni.

India enjoyed great success under the leadership duo of Dhoni and Kirsten. Besides winning the 2010 Asia Cup and ODI + Test series in New Zealand in 2009, the Men in Blue went on to lift the 2011 World Cup on home soil, a fitting tribute to Gary- the coach.
