Tributes have not stopped pouring in ever since former India captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement on Independence Day. But former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq came up with a different opinion and said that it was not the right way to retire for a player of MS Dhoni’s stature.

Dhoni announced his retirement at 1929hrs via an Instagram video on Independence Day. Inazamam believes that since Dhoni has millions of fan across the globe, who wanted to see him play on the ground, it was not right for him to retire while sitting at home. Adding that MS Dhoni should have announced his retirement from the ground.

“Dhoni has millions of fan across the globe who want to see him play on the ground. In my opinion a player of such stature, shouldn’t have taken retirement while sitting at home. He should have announced retirement from the ground,” Inzamam-ul-Haq said on his YouTube channel.

“This is the same thing, I once told Sachin Tendulkar. When you have such a big fanfare, you should ideally end your journey from the ground, after all it is this ground where you earned such respect and stardom.”

“In my opinion, even Dhoni should have done the same then his fans would have been more happy, including me since I rate him as the best Indian skipper,” Inzamam said.

“MS Dhoni is such a clever cricketer that he knew how to built players. Suresh Raina and R Ashwin are two best players, MS Dhoni produced.” “His level of understanding of the sport was so good that he used to pick players and then turn them into great players,” he said.

However, the decision taken by Dhoni can be understood in his own words, as he played largely for the country and not the fans.

Dhoni made a big name for himself by making the country proud with his achievements after coming from the cricketing backwaters of Ranchi. He has achieved immense success as a player and also grew up to be one of the most successful captains and achieved almost everything the ICC tournaments had to offer.

All the success had made him one of the most influential person on the cricketing circuit but he was not the same when he was first introduced to the national team. Besides that, MS Dhoni has also been the go-to man for his teammates whenever he was on the field.

Dhoni understood the game well. He knew the strength of the side and backs his players accordingly. He did not takes any kind of frivolous decisions and likes to maintain his calm. It is due to these qualities Dhoni came up as one of the most calm and composed character on the cricket field.
