Once upon a time the discarded left-handed Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir was the player who cemented his place with his performances, but the dip in his form has forced him to be sidelined long back.

“That is what you are meant to do and that is what I am trying to do. This year is no difference from what I used to do last year,” Gambhir told PTI.

Motivated and aggressive batsman Gambhir decided he would continue to give his hundred percent to eye for the spot while adding if he feels that he is not doing well knows better what he supposed to do.

“The motivation is exactly the same. The day I don’t feel the same I will not hang around,” Gambhir asserted.

The 36-year-old batsman Gambhir played a significant role in helping state-side Delhi to qualify for the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 final after a prolonged gap of 10 years.

Interestingly, in 2008, Gambhir was the skipper of Delhi when the side qualified for the grand-finale which further saw them routing Mumbai by nine wickets.

In the ongoing year, Gambhir struck three hundred followed by two half-centuries which further saw him amassing 632 runs to join the list of top-run getters while placing himself at the eighth spot.

Having runs behind him in the domestic fold since he was left out from the national side, it’s the age which has further posed a serious question over Gambhir’s return to the national fold.

However, the professional cricketer in the form of Gambhir has vowed to give his best as he has been passionate about the gentleman’s game.

Clear in his thought process, Gambhir pointed that he is not there to make a comment about the selectors his prime focus is on his fitness and to score runs.

“I don’t speak to the selectors and I don’t need to speak to the selectors. Ultimately, my job is to score runs and that is what I only focus on,” Gambhir added.

As Gambhir has been on the role for Delhi, he subsequently believes one has to score runs and he is hopeful to continue with the same.

“Keep scoring runs, that is what you can control and you can do,” Gambhir remarks.

Gambhir further reiterated he as a batsman is aiming to continue where he has left off.

The prominent face in Gambhir has played the part as a senior campaigner for the Ranji side which eventually might help him to be into the contention of the national squad.

“You can’t control things which are not in your hands. The only thing you can control is to get a bat in your hand, go out there, perform and score as many runs as possible,” Gambhir concluded.
