Hanuma Vihari, who had a dismal tour against New Zealand, is using the break to sharpen his skills for the tour Down Under later this year. Though the schedule for India’s to Australia is not announced it is likely to commence from the first week of December.

In the tour to New Zealand earlier this year, Vihari scored only one half-century and was dismissed in double figures in two out of four innings, he batted in. Though Vihari is certain to grab a place in the Test squad for the series Down Under, his performance will be under severe scrutiny.

Vihari was also expected to sign a contract with a county club. But with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought the cricketing action to a stand still, it remains to be seen for which club and when does he finalise on the deal.

Besides this, he is also focusing on improving his fitness.

“I am going to use this time to focus on my fitness, sharpen my skills for county cricket as well as for the Australia tour in late 2020,” Vihari, who was part of India’s last tour of New Zealand, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Mentally I am trying hard to keep myself positive and busy. My challenge is: there is no cricket for the next three to four months. I do have a summer to look forward to having signed with a team in the English County Championship, where my contract starts from late August. Fingers crossed about that.”

One good thing, Hanuma Vihari reckons about the break is that, he will be able to celebrate his first anniversary on May 19. If the cricketing action would have been on, Vihari would not be able to spend time at home, he said.

“One good thing that will come out of this break is: I will able to celebrate my first wedding anniversary with my wife on May 19. In normal circumstances I might have been busy with cricket. So at least one person is not complaining too much!”
