On Saturday, Former Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar advised the ICC to eradicate the rule of umpire’s call in the Decision Review System (DRS). Tendulkar believes that the decision must stand out if the ball is even marginally clipping the stumps. While Sachin Tendulkar is not the only player to advise to do away with it, Harbhajan Singh has backed the move too.

As per the present rules of the review system, if the ball hits any full stump, only in that event a decision gets overturned or given out. If the fielding team challenges the on-field decision and the delivery is marginally clipping the stumps or bails, the on-field call stands. On the other hand, if a batsman challenges the umpire’s decision and if the ball kisses the timber or bails, the call falls in favour of the bowling team.

In a discussion with Brian Lara, Sachin mentioned that while the ICC has been using the DRS for quite some time; however, for all the balls where stumps are hitting, the decision needs to be overturned.

“One thing I don’t agree with, with the ICC, is the DRS they have been using for quite some time. It is the LBW decision where more than 50 per cent of the ball must be hitting the stumps for the on-field decision to be overturned,” the prolific former run-getter said

The 47-year old claimed that when the decision goes to the third umpire, the technology needs to have the final say. It should either be out or not out and nothing in between.

“The only reason they (the batsman or the bowler) have gone upstairs is that they are unhappy with the on-field decision, so when the decision goes to the third umpire, let the technology take over, just like in tennis, it’s either in or out, there’s nothing in between,”

As far as Harbhajan Singh is concerned, he agrees with Sachin Tendulkar 100 per cent. The Turbanator also conceded that it should not matter what part of the wicket the ball clips and this is one of the rules which must be altered for the betterment of the game. Since its advent nearly a decade ago, the review system has gone through a few trials and tribulations while Sachin and Harbhajan are not the only ones against the umpire’s call rule.

Agree with you Paji 100 percent correct. If the ball is touching the stump or kissing the Stumps it should be given out. It does not matter how much part of the ball hit the wicket..few rules should b changed in the game for the betterment of the game..this is certainly 1 of those,” the 103-Test veteran tweeted.
