Hashim Amla Retires Hurt After Being Hit By Jofra Archer Thunderbolt

It took Jofra Archer less than two overs to justify the faith shown in him by England. England had picked Archer in their World Cup squad in place of David Willey as the former is known for his pace. And Archer showed the world what to expect in the coming days by bowling an absolute bolt just in his second over in the ongoing game against South Africa. But unfortunately, South Africa opener Hashim Amla had to pay a big price of Archer’s pace.
The Barbados-born allrounder bowled a thunderous 145kph bouncer and the ball went on hit Amla on his helmet grills. The veteran batsman was late on the pull shot, thus missed it completely and the impact was pretty nasty. Amla took off his helmet soon and checked it before the physio came running in.
Jofra Archer just pinged Amla, one of the world’s best batsmen, straight in the head with a rapid bouncer. Thankfully the helmet saved serious injury but he’s had to go off. England must now pick @JofraArcher for The Ashes, surely? He’s dangerously good. pic.twitter.com/9Lc0PVJyBs

As per the rules, the physio did the concussion test before Chris Morris came running in with a handful of helmets. However, Amla eventually decided to walk off the field. South Africa would be hoping that the blow is not serious and Amla walked off just a precautionary measure. Amla scored 5 off 8 before the bouncer blow.

South Africa, meanwhile, are chasing a mammoth 312 runs to start their World Cup on a winning note. Earlier in the match, England finished on 311 for 8 after being asked to bat first. The hosts rode on fifties from Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler to post the massive total. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowler after picking up 3 for 66. Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada picked up 2 wickets each.
