ICC Championship - Sri Lanka Women vs India Women, 3rd ODI - Match Report

The third One Day International of the ICC championship between Sri Lanka and India went down to the wire as Sri Lanka won by three wickets. However, it was a dead rubber as the series was already sealed by India after winning the first two matches. Sri Lanka Women won the toss and decided to bowl first. Indian skipper Mithali Raj scored a fine unbeaten 125 off 143 balls to help Women in Blue get to 253 runs in their 50 overs. This was Mithali’s sixth hundred in the 50-overs format.

In fact, the talisman right-hander scored her highest score today beating her previous best of 114 which came against Ireland. The veteran Indian batsman scored 14 fours and one maximum in her fine knock.

India seals the series by 2-1.

In fact, this was Raj’s second fifty on the trot as she had scored a fine half-century in the previous match. However, Mithali’s knock went in vain as Sri Lanka chased the target in the final over of their innings.

India’s southpaw opener Smriti Mandhana continued her fine form as she scored a fine fifty. The left-hander scored six boundaries in her knock of 51 runs.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka got off to a fine start as their openers put together an alliance of 101 runs. Thus, they had a good platform to get to their target. The host’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu scored a blistering hundred as she scored 115 runs off 133 balls. She was well accompanied by Hasini Perera who scored 45 runs.

Kavisha Dilhari gave the finishing touches to the run-chase as she scored 12 runs off just seven balls. Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami scalped two wickets.

Sri Lanka and India will now lock horns in the three-match T20 International series. The first T20I will take place on 19th September.
