ICC Test Rankings: Kusal Mendis Breaks Into Top 20 After Historic Win

Sri Lanka’s prodigy batsman Kusal Mendis has broken into the top 20 batsmen in the latest ICC Test rankings. The right-hander scored an undefeated 84 in the second innings to help his team chase down 197 to create history at Port Elizabeth against South Africa. Mendis made a significant jump of 11 positions to take the 18th rank in ICC Test rankings.
Mendis was awarded the Man of the match in the second Test match. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka went on to create history as they became the first Asian side to win on the South Africa soil. Oshada Fernando also made significant gains after he scored his maiden Test fifty and added 163 runs with Kusal Mendis to take Sri Lanka to the famous win.

Oshada Fernando vaulted by 35 slots to take the 65th rank. Niroshan Dickwella who made 36-ball 42 in the first innings to take his team past 150 made a jump of eight places to occupy the 37th rank.
On the other hand, South Africa slipped down in the rankings to the third rank. Dean Elgar, the southpaw opener, who could score only 43 runs in two Test matches slipped by seven places to the 23rd rank.

Temba Bavuma descended by five spots to 38th rank. On the other hand, Duanne Olivier and Suranga Lakmal made a jump of three places. Olivier now occupies the 19th rank whereas Suranga Lakamal who took four wickets in the second innings takes the 30th place in the rankings ladder.
Olivier who had stellar series against Pakistan claimed seven wickets in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Vishwa Fernando who was the highest wicket-getter with 12 wickets made a leap of six places to perch at 43rd rank.
