Australia have begun their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign in great fashion winning three matches out of four games. The Aussies have only gone down against India in a close encounter before bouncing back against Pakistan. David Warner has led the batting unit from the front, and assistant coach Ricky Ponting believes the southpaw can finish as the leading run-scorer.
Warner can finish as the top-scorer: Ponting
Meanwhile, David Warner came into the international circuit after sustaining a one year ban due to his role in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa last year. However, he had a great time in the IPL leading to the World Cup. The opener finished as the highest run-scorer and had a good practice for the marquee event. Warner has precisely started the way he would have liked to start the showpiece event.

So far, David Warne is the second highest runscorer in the World Cup after Bangladesh’ Shakib Al Hasan. The southpaw has scored 255 runs from four matches at an average of 85 including one century and two fifties. And going by the famous quote ‘morning shows the day; Warner has already hinted that he is looking to make this tournament big. And Ricky Ponting also believes that the swashbuckling opener can be the leading run-getter of the competition.
“You could see by the way he moved into his shots and picking up the length early, he hit a lot of pull shots early in his innings, which is always a good sign for him. He’d taken the handbrake off which has allowed himself to play with a bit more freedom. If he keeps playing like that for the rest of the tournament, he’s probably going to be the leading run scorer,” Cricket.com.au quoted Ponting.
Furthermore, Ricky Ponting also revealed that he had a chat with David Warner and asked to see the ball till the end and then play his which has worked wonders for him. Australia will play Sri Lanka next on June 15 (Saturday) at the Kennington Oval in London.
