The way Jofra Archer is bowling at the moment, every team in the world would love to have him. However, West Indies skipper Jason Holder is an exception. As West Indies gear up to face Archer and England in the World Cup, Holder has insisted that the allrounder would not find a place in the West Indies side. All eyes will be on Archer when both the teams lock horns today in Southampton.

Barbados-born Archer played for West Indies’ Under-19 side but is now fronting England’s bowling attack. He had played for West Indies Under-19s three times in 2014. However, a relentless back injury hampered his progress in a big way and it changed things drastically.  The West Indies cricket board did not back him, making Archer think about alternatives.

The promising allrounder then decided to ply his trade in England. He soon penned down a contract with Sussex and there has been no looking back since then. Archer has impressed in T20 leagues across the world and has started his international career in a same fashion. However, his impressive exploits seemed to have not impress Jason Holder much as he said he would not take the England allrounder in his team.

“He’s one of those guys who has always had ability and talent. It’s unfortunate how things went in terms of his decision making,” Jason Holder said on the eve of the game against England.

“He’s English, so no,” added Holder when asked whether Archer would make it to the West Indies team.

Archer, meanwhile, has made an impressive start to the World Cup. The right-arm pacer has claimed six wickets in three games at the World Cup, with only Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir (10), New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson (8) and Matt Henry (7) and Australia’s Mitchell Starc (7) claiming more so far. He can definitely pose problems for West Indies’ top order on Friday.
