India???s football captain Sunil Chhetri has put his weight behind the India national cricket team for their scintillating show in the World Cup. India could not go all the way but their performance throughout the tournament was right up to the mark. The Men in Blue had finished the group stage at the top of the points table with 15 points under their belt.

Virat Kohli???s team went on to win seven matches out of the nine games they played. The Indian was able to tick the right boxes in the competition in the league stage. However, India could not bring their best in the semifinal contest against New Zealand.

New Zealand posted a paltry score of 239 runs after Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat first. Williamson scored a fine knock of 67 whereas Ross Taylor scored 74 runs. However, India could only score 221 runs as they failed to achieve any momentum in their batting innings.

In fact, India was put on the back foot from the get-go by New Zealand opening bowling of Trent Boult and Matt Henry. Henry scalped the big fish, Rohit Sharma and Boult was able to ping Virat Kohli in front of the wickets. Furthermore, KL Rahul nicked off to Tom Latham as he played a half-hearted short to leave India tottering at 5-3.

Ravindra Jadeja was able to hit the ground running as he scored 77 runs whereas MS Dhoni scored a fifty. However, their efforts went in vain as India fell short by 18 runs. On the other hand, Matt Henry was awarded the Man of the match for taking three wickets.

Sunil took to his Twitter account to stand behind the Indian team. He wrote, ???This team you???ve led has played the kind of cricket to make all of us proud, @imVkohli. It was a fantastic journey that fell a few yards short, but I???m sure you boys will pick yourselves up soon. Very proud of Team India.???
