All eyes will be on Shakib Al Hasan as Bangladesh play their last ICC World Cup 2019 game against Pakistan on July 5 (Friday) at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He has been their brightest star making significant contributions with both bat and ball. As they gear for their last encounter, Shakib will look to equal a record held by Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Shakib in line to equal Tendulkar’s record

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have put up a spirited effort in the World Cup despite results not coming their way every time. They have defeated South Africa and Afghanistan, pulled off a record chase against West Indies, played some outstanding cricket in a big chase against Australia, and nearly beat New Zealand. While the Tigers have almost nothing to gain from the match against, Shakib Al Hasan will have everything to play. So far, he has scored 542 runs from eight games and claimed 11 wickets in the World Cup. Shakib is the only cricketer in the history of the World Cup to achieve this feat. Let alone this landmark, no all-rounder has managed to score 400 runs and pick ten wickets in one edition of the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan is on the verge of joining legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in his next game. The Bangladesh all-rounder has so far scored two centuries and four fifties thus far in the World Cup. If he manages to cross the 50-run mark against Pakistan, Shakib will become only the second cricketer after Tendulkar to score seven 50+ scores in a single edition. Tendulkar achieved the landmark in the 2003 World Cup where India finished as the runner-up losing to Australia in the final.

Furthermore, Shakib Al Hasan has 11 50+ scores in the history of World Cups. If he scores one more, the top-ranked all-rounder will touch Kumar Sangakkara in the second spot who has 12 50+ scores. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of them with 21 such scores in the World Cup matches.
