ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts as England Keeps West Indies at Bay

West Indies scored 212 after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bowl first in the 19th match of the ICC World Cup 2019. However, the Windies could not get off to a good start as they lost the wicket of Evin Lewis early. Chris Woakes was right on the money with his yorker and the southpaw batsman could not get his bat to ball.
Chris Gayle threatened to get going as he scored five fours and one six. However, the left-hander’s innings was put paid by Liam Plunkett. The southpaw batsman could not control his pull shot and Jonny Bairstow took a simple catch at deep square leg.

England was right on the money.
Subsequently, Shai Hope was plumbed in front by Mark Wood. Meanwhile, West Indies was able to get back into the contest through the partnership of Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer. The left-handed pair added an alliance of 89 runs and took their team close to 150 run mark. Pooran also completed his fifty and gave solidarity to West Indies.
Meanwhile, when West Indies was able to get going, England struck at the right time. Joe Root caught and bowled Shimron Hetmyer. Furthermore, England’s Test captain accounted for Jason Holder. Root bowled an innocuous knuckleball towards the leg side and Holder closed the bat face too early to give a simple catch back to Root. Hence, Root uprooted West Indies two crucial wickets.

Andre Russell came to the crease and cleared his intentions from the get-go. The hard hitter had the rub of the green on his side as he was dropped by Chris Woakes when he was on three. However, the drop didn’t prove to be costly for England as Woakes took his second chance when Mark Wood followed Russell’s body and forced him to pull.
Subsequently, Jofra Archer scalped two wickets in two balls removing Nicholas Pooran and Sheldon Cottrell. Joe Root and Mark Wood took two wickets each. Archer scalped three wickets as he once again bowled with fire.

WestIndies is a strong team this worldcup but playing bit of brainless cricket here trying to hit every ball out of park. Disappointed, was expecting a close contest #ENGvWI #CWC19

West Indies bowled out for 212. The lowest total they have successfully defended in World Cup is 230 vs Bangladesh, Barbados, 2007. #EngvWI

The Windies should only play T20 cricket …. the entire team is worthy of lasting only 20 overs …. they will score the same as they do in 50 overs #ENGvWI
