Pakistan registered a comprehensive win against South Africa by 49 runs in the 30th match of the World Cup at Lord’s, London on Sunday. Thus, the Proteas are officially knocked out of the ODI showpiece. Pakistan posted a par score of 308 runs after their skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and decided to bat first.
Pakistan openers added a fine alliance of 81 runs for the opening stand. However, Fakhar Zaman decided to play an audacious scoop shot which didn’t come off. The ball ballooned to Hashim Amla for a simple catch at first sleep. Subsequently, Imran Tahir plucked a one-handed stunner to dismiss Imam-ul-Haq.

Pakistan comes with an inspiring performance.
Babar Azam scored a fine knock of 69 runs. The right-hander scored seven fours in his innings. Mohammad Hafeez was plumbed in front by part-time spinner Aiden Markram when the right-hander missed his sweep.
Subsequently, Harris Sohail was able to provide the much-needed impetus to Pakistan’s innings. The left-hander who was brought into the playing XI was able to hit the ground running. In fact, Sohail was playing his first match of the tournament but showed no signs of lack of match practice.
The southpaw batsman hammered 59-ball 89 with the help of nine fours and three sixes to help Pakistan boost to a par total of 308 runs. Lungi Ngidi scalped three wickets whereas Imran Tahir too two wickets.

On the other hand, South Africa could not get to a good start. The Proteas lost the early wicket of Hashim Amla when the right-hander was plumbed in front of the wickets by Mohammad Amir. Quinton de Kock scored 47 but once again failed to convert his start into a substantial score.
Faf du Plessis scored 63 runs but he could not continue his innings when he tried to take on Mohammad Amir and got a top-edge. No other South African batsman was able to get going despite getting off to starts. Furthermore, the required run-rate went sky high after Proteas failed to keep it in check.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
It really has been difficult to watch. I try and consider the plans and thoughts but I’m baffled. #SouthAfrica #CWC19

Only team Pakistan can win a match after dropping more than 5 chances in the field, this is exceptional, isn’t it? #PakvSA

The maths for these lame Proteas now? We are still in it … if the tournament is declared null and void and restarted.

South Africa must think this World Cup is one long nightmare they are unable to wake up from. Pakistan still alive!

Round-Robin format rewards consistency. Methods. Processes. Everything that defines South African cricket….but #CWC19 has been a nightmare. One they must never forget. And they won’t…proud cricketing nation but currently in total disarray. #SAvPak

Disappointing from South Africa. They are just throwing in the towel. Felt they were playing their cricket like an afraid team. #CWC19 #SAvPAK

Most disappointing team in this World Cup is South Africa by a huge margin. To what extent did the ABD controversy derail them??
— Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) June 23, 2019
Teams with odd points.
IND and NZ are almost through. South Africa will be out. WI and BD can not go above Pakistan if PAK win the next three games (which means 11 points). So, Pakistan can qualify without worrying about Net Run Rate. #CWC19

Dear Pakistan team management and Sarfaraz, please do not change this team combination now. And yes, welcome back to the World Cup!#PAKvSA

A week is a long time in cricket: last Sunday, Pakistan was all over the place against India; today, top of their game: fine batting, quality spin and reverse swing. All good except their fielding which remains comical at times. is there any team as schizophrenic? #PAKvSA

Have a safe journey Imran Tahir

Excellent performance Pakistan! The bowlers backed up Haris Sohail's brilliant batting effort. Hope the momentum will be sustained in the games ahead. BUT the fielding must improve so many dropped catches, can't be excused at all! #WeHaveWeWill
