If Rishabh Pant Is A Match-Winner, Why Don't You Play Him: Virender Sehwag

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag threw a volley at the selectors, questioning the absence of Rishabh Pant. The under-fire wicket-keeper batsman is currently in New Zealand with the Indian team. He has been warming the bench and didn’t get to play in the four T20Is so far.

Virat Kohli’s men have been on a phenomenal run, winning four games on a trot. The side has scripted history by winning their maiden T20I series in the Kiwi’s backyard. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been in a stellar form and he has done a fair job behind the stumps. The right-hander started the series with a couple of fifties and provided quick-fire starts in all the games so far.
Virender Sehwag puts out a question to the selectors
“Rishabh Pant has been left out how will he score runs? If you bench Sachin Tendulkar also, he won’t be able to score runs. If you feel he is a match-winner, why don’t you play him? Because he is not consistent?” Sehwag was quoted as saying during a Cricbuzz talk show.

Sehwag took a sly dig at Kohli by stating that he isn’t sure whether the Indian skipper had a word with Pant. He went on to say that Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma is well-known for having a conversation with his players.”During our time, the captain used to go and talk with the player (in question). Now I don’t know if Virat Kohli does the same or not. I am not part of the team setup. But people say that when Rohit Sharma went to Asia Cup as captain, he used to talk to all the players,” he added.
Pant has a reputation of being a hard-hitter but of late runs have dried up. His glovework hasn’t been the best and giving away starts hasn’t helped matters either. The likes of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have been in the wings and with Rahul doing a neat work, the road might well be tough for the 22-year-old.
