The inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League has been postponed, Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Tuesday (August 11). The tournament will now take place in November.

The first season of the competition was scheduled to start on August 28 as Lanka Premier League was all set to become the second T20 League after the Caribbean Premier League to take place amid the pandemic. CPL 2020 is scheduled to start on August 18.

SLC decided to postpone the competition for a couple of months after considering the guidelines provided by the country’s Health Ministry.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that the Lanka Premier League which was scheduled to be held from 28th August 2020 to 20th September 2020 has been postponed to the month of November 2020.

“The said decision was taken by SLC in consideration of the health guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Health subsequent to the meeting held with the Health Ministry Authorities,” read the statement from SLC.

With the Lanka Premier League now postponed, Sri Lankan duo Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana are now set to available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) right from the start. Recent reports suggested that the duo could miss the start of the competition because of playing in the Lanka Premier League.
