'I Am A Fan Of Tim Paine': Vidarbha Star Faiz Fazal Names His Favourite Test Captains

Ranji Trophy-winning captain Faiz Fazal believes India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Tim Paine are two of the best captains in the world at the moment. Both Kohli and Paine are on collision course later this year when India tour Australia for a blockbuster four-match Test series.

The last time the two met, Kohli had come out on top as India registered a historic 2-1 series win in Australia during the 2018/19 series. It was India’s first-ever Test series win in Australia. As far as Paine was concerned, it was just his second Test series as full-time captain and he was also without the likes of Steve Smith and David Warner.

But the wicketkeeper-batsman has done really well as captain after that series and has also powered Australia to the top of the ICC Test Rankings while Kohli-led India are at the second spot. India were at the top of the ICC Test rankings for more than three years.

“I am a fan of Tim Paine, he is very good as a Test captain. Virat is also very good in Tests,” said Faiz Fazal in a recent interaction on Sports Tiger’s show ‘Off the Field’ when asked to name his pick for the best captain in the world.

Meanwhile, Faiz Fazal is completely out of favour as far as his future with Team India is concerned. The left-handed batsman, who scored 1,001 and 942 first-class runs in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively, represented India in a solitary ODI against Zimbabwe in 2016 where he scored a half-century. Since then, he has not been recalled and is unlikely to get any call.

Faiz Fazal, who led Vidarbha to back-to-back titles in 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, further shared his experience of being a captain and how difficult it is to lead a team.

“I love captaining Vidarbha. I have been very fortunate to get some amazing cricketers in my side. Even when I was leading in the Duleep Trophy, I had some amazing cricketers in that team as well. You cannot teach a lot, it comes naturally,” he said.
