IND vs WI: I Am Still Young! Ajinkya Rahane Reckons There's Still A Lot Of Cricket Left In Him

Ajinkya Rahane turned 35 years old last month. The birthday brought a piece of good news in his career he has become the new vice-captain of Team India in Tests. Ahead of IND vs WI Test series, Ajinkya Rahane said that there’s still a lot of cricket left in him despite his growing age.

Ajinkya Rahane was out of the Test team for almost 18 months post-January 2022. After his outstanding batting show in IPL 2023 and the domestic season, he made a comeback to the Test team in ICC WTC final 2023. With his brilliant batting show against Australia, he was promoted to Rohit Sharma’s deputy role in Tests.

I Am Still Young And A Lot Of Cricket Left In Me: Ajinkya Rahane

While speaking in a press conference ahead of the IND vs WI Test series, Ajinkya Rahane got displeased by a question about his age. The right-handed batter said he is still young and has a lot of cricket in him.

“Is age mein matlab? Main abhi bhi young hoon (What do you mean by at this age? I’m still young). There’s still a lot of cricket left in me”, the India vice-captain said.

“I had a good IPL, I scored runs in domestic cricket too. Batting-wise, I got a lot of confidence. I have worked a lot on my fitness in the last one and a half years. Right now, I’m enjoying the kind of cricket I’m playing and not thinking too far ahead. Each and every match is important personally as well as for the team,” the 35-year-old further said.

Senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped for the IND vs WI Test series. On his behalf, youngsters like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal were added to the squad. Ajinkya Rahane feels that it will be a great opportunity for someone who will replace Pujara in the team.

“Great opportunity for the individual who will be playing in place of Pujara. I’m not sure who will play. All the players are experienced, I’m sure it’ll be a great opportunity for whoever plays,” said Rahane, who has played 83 Tests for India so far.

Meanwhile, India vs West Indies Test series will observe two games. The IND vs WI 1st Test begins on Wednesday (July 12). The venue of the clash is Windsor Park in Dominica.
