Former Australia wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist feels Team India will one of the favourites to win the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia next year. The Virat Kohli-led side will be desperate to end their seven-year-long jinx at the ICC tournaments.

The Men in Blues have already started their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Currently, they are experimenting with their squad to find the best combination for the conditions in Australia. They inflicted whitewashes over West Indies and South Africa but suffered a humiliating defeat against Bangladesh in the first T20I.

India, who won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, will be desperate to bring home the trophy for the second time around. Former Aussie cricketer Adam Gilchrist also feels India will go a long way in the tournament which runs from October 18.

“Probably they (India) will be featuring in semi-finals and the finals. I can’t predict who is going to win but I suspect that the usual suspects like India, England, Australia and New Zealand will probably make the long way, semi-finals of course,” Gilchrist said at a promotional event here.

However, Adam Gilchrist denied to rule out Pakistan, who are currently at the top of the ICC Rankings in the shortest format. Although they witnessed a whole change in their set-up with Babar Azam taking over the captaincy roles, Gilchrist feels they will be a strong contender.

“Pakistan are number one ranked team in the format, so you cannot rule them out. But T20 cricket is a bit of lottery so it is hard to predict the winner until the final runs are scored or wickets are taken,” he concludedd.
