Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave an angry send-off to his counterpart Kieron Pollard after he was dismissed on a golden duck by Mohammed Shami. Coming in to bat after Nicholas Pooran’s dismissal, Pollard edged one to Rishabh Pant off Shami, getting out on a duck.
Kohli was elated man following the fall of the wicket and gave an angry send-off to Pollard. In the first innings, Pollard too had his moment as he dismissed Kohli on a golden duck and it was Kohli’s opportunity to avenge the tease.
The wicket of Pollard marked the downfall of WI’s innings as they losg half of their side on a score of 192. Indian bowlers made inroads later and WI were eight down for 235 after 37 overs. Kuldeep Yadav, who punished himself being hit for a six, took a hat-trick to further push WI out of the game.
West Indies, despite losing three wickets, were very much in the game after Pooran and Shai Hope added 106 runs for the fourth wicket. Shami changed the course of the game with the scalps of Pooran and Pollard and with Kuldeep’s hat-trick, India almost confirmed a victory.
A win here will see India level the series 1-1. The hosts had lost the opening ODI by eight wickets as WI chased down a huge target of 288.
The third ODI of the series will be played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on December 22 this Sunday. A win for India will see them continue their domination over the WI but if they win, then Kieron Pollard and co will create history as it will be after more than 10 years that they will win a series in India. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, Kohli led India to ODI series victory over West Indies.
