ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Twitter Reacts As India Crush Sri Lanka To Top Group Stage Points Table

Yet again, the Indian Women Cricket Team displayed top-notch performance in the ongoing ICC Women World Cup 2020. Radha Yadav’s four-wicket haul and the brilliant Shafali Verma once again turned out to star for India in a one-sided contest. With the victory, India finished the group stage with the number one position.

Getting into the details of the game, initially, it was Sri Lanka, who won the toss, decided to bat first. They haven’t got the good opening partnership but Chamari Athapaththu once again stood tall for Islanders. But, unfortunately, no other batter helped her to put pressure on India.

For India, Radha was the wrecker-in-chief with four wickets to her name while Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked two wickets. Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey and Poonam Yadav chipped in with one wicket each.

In reply to the target of 114, Shafali started things in flash mode alongside Smriti Mandhana. The duo added 34 runs for the first wicket before Mandhana being dismissed to Prabodhini. Following the wicket, Shafali and Harmanpreet Kaur changed their gears to add quick runs for the team. Harmanpreet recently maintained they won’t take Lankan women’s team lightly.

Despite Harmanpreet Kaur walking back to the pavilion, Shafali Verma continued her rich vein of form by smashing 47 runs in 34 balls with 7 fours and 1 six in it.

Just when things looked in control for India, Verma dismissed run out. However, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma finished the game with 32 balls to spare.

All in all, it was a fine victory for India, who will now enter into the next level of the tournament with a lot of confidence.
