India vs Australia 2019, Third ODI - Statistical Highlights

Australia beat India by 32 runs in the third ODI in Ranchi to keep the five-match series alive. Batting first,  Australia scored a daunting 313 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. Usman Khawaja scored his maiden hundred while Aaron Finch scored 93. In reply, India were all out for 281. Captain Virat Kohli waged a lone battle, scoring 141 but found little support from the other end.

Australia: 313/5 in 50 overs (Usman Khawaja 104, Aaron Finch 93; Kuldeep Yadav 3-64, Mohammed Shami 1-52 )

India: India 281 in 48.2 overs (Virat Kohli 123, Vijay Shankar 32; Jhye Richardson 3-37, Pat Cummins 3-37)

Result: Australia won by 32 runs.

With the game now done and dusted, we take a look at the statistical highlights:

1. Usman Khwaja scored 104 to lay the foundation for the winning total. And his century is the first individual hundred for Australia in a winning cause since David Warner’s 124 in Bengaluru in Sep 2017.  In between Warner and Khawaja’s ton, Australia had registered seven international hundreds and all had gone in vain.

2. Virat Kohli now has the most hundreds in India-Australia ODIs in India. The record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.   This was his 8th ODI hundred against Australia at home.

3.  Virat Kohli became became the fourth Indian captain to score 4000 ODI runs after Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Overall, he is the 12 captain to achieve the feat.

4. The India skipper broke AB de Villiers’ record of fastest to 4,000 runs in ODIs. Kohli achieved the feat in his 63rd innings while de Villiers had taken 77 innings for the same.

5. It was sixth century for Virat Kohli while chasing against Australia which is the most by any batsman against an opposition in ODIs.

6. Kuldeep Yadav is now level with Mitchell in the list of most ODI wickets after 42 games. Kuldeep has 85 wickets in 42 games. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan leads the list with 96 scalps.

7. It was the second occasion in the last one year that opposition openers have put on 150+ against India in ODIs. Hong Kong’s Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath had put on 174 during the Asia Cup game in September last year.
