Indian National Cricket team all-rounder Vijay Shankar was unfortunate to depart off a run out on 46 runs – filled with top-class shots in the second ODI against Australia at Nagpur. Shankar, who has got an extended run with Hardik Pandya ruled out due to injury, is making full use of his chances to seal his spot for the upcoming ICC World Cup.

Meanwhile, Australia skipper Aaron Finch surprised one and all opting to bowl first but his bowlers didn’t let him down. Pat Cummins struck early in the first over to dismiss Virat Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma for a golden duck. Although Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli tried to bail India out but a Glenn Maxwell delivery struck Dhawan’s pad to provide a breakthrough. The Aussie all-rounder is currently going through a purple patch as he chipping in with both bat and ball. Since then, the Indian skipper and Vijay Shankar -promoted to no five, looked in complete control of things.

Shankar was of top-class

While Kohli was as usual at his best, Shankar’s dominance with the bat drew eyeballs. Starting as a replacement option to Hardik Pandya, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder has started to make a mark. His batting at the top-order has been of absolute class. He played some gorgeous looking shots in his short-lived innings of 46 runs off 41 deliveries and left an impression on the mind of all the cricket lovers.

However, unfortunately, Vijay Shankar had to walk back for no mistake of his at four short of his fifty. Adam Zampa tossed up delivery and Kohli absolutely crunches the drive back at the bowler, who bends down and gets a finger before the ball crashes into the stumps. Shankar was backing up and he had very little time to react and get back in. The stumps had lit up before he could slide his bat back in.

The breakthrough opened the gates for Australia as Zampa snicked in with two more wickets in two consecutive balls. He dismissed MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav – match-winners from the last game, to have Indian National Cricket team at 171 for six. While the visiting team will aim to finish the innings quickly, India will hope to post a good total with Virat Kohli going strong at 75 runs.
