Former Indian National Cricket team skipper MS Dhoni may have grown older but his swift work behind the stumps is still the best in the business. It was once again on display during the first ODI between India and New Zealand at Napier when he removed Lockie Ferguson with his lightning-fast stumping.
Meanwhile, the visitors did a wonderful job after the Kiwi opted to bat first at Napier. Mohammed Shami was absolutely brilliant with the new ball removing both the openers. In the process, he became the fastest India to scalp 100 ODI wickets as India took an early grip on the game.
Since then, skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor tried to stitch a partnership concentrating more on ones and twos. However, when things started looking good the Black Caps, Yuzvendra Chahal held onto a beautiful catch off his own bowling to remove Taylor (24). Although Williamson brought a half-century, wickets kept falling from the other end as Kuldeep Yadav weaved his magic. The New Zealand tailenders aren’t picking the two Indian spinners while MS Dhoni was at his best.
It was a lovely delivery from Kuldeep as he tossed up nicely outside off and it kept going with the angle. The drift made Lockie Ferguson lunge forward as he gets beaten on the outside edge and beaten by some sharp work from Dhoni. Third umpire Llong had several looks before referring in favour of the fielding team.
