South Africa have included three debutants in their 15-member Test squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against India. Fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Rudi Seconds and spin bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy have earned maiden national calls.

The Proteas will resume cricket with the T20I series against India followed by the three Test matches. Meanwhile, this will be South Africa’s first Test series without Dale Steyn and Hashim Amla. While paceman Steyn announced his retirement from the longer formats to enhance his playing opportunities in the limited-overs, Amla bid farewell to international cricket. The Proteas will have a task at hand against the current top-ranked Test side – India.

Faf du Plessis will continue to lead the side as the Proteas will begin their campaign in the ICC World Test Championship. They have included three spinners considering the sub-continent conditions and five pacers to support the three-match series. CSA Acting Director of Cricket, Corrie van Zyl said that debutants have earned their spots with consistent performances in domestic cricket. Zubayr Hamza, who made his debut against Pakistan has retained his spot and is likely to come in place of Hashim Amla.

“All three newcomers to the Test side have more than earned their spurs through impressive performances in last season’s Four-Day Franchise competition,” Zyl said.

The Test series will commence from October 2 at Visakhapatnam while Pune and Ranchi will host the next two Test matches respectively.
