India vs Windies 2018: If We Had Wickets In Hand We Would’ve Got 130-140, Says Carlos Brathwaite
India had won the first T20I match of the three-match series against Windies by five wickets where Carlos Brathwaite picked up two wickets in the game.
Earlier in the day Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. Carlos Brathwaite and Co. couldn’t put up a good show as they lost their three wickets in the powerplay.
Meanwhile, Shai Hope, who showed a good performance in ODI matches has been named in the team after Andre Russell gets an injury. Carlos Brathwaite and Co. couldn’t play some great cricket as they posted a score of 109 runs at the end of 20th over.
Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers from Indian team who bagged with three wickets. The other four bowlers picked up one each. However, while chasing down the target, India lost their first wicket as Rohit Sharma scored six runs off six deliveries.
Windies paceman Oshane Thomas did the early damage for his team as he picked up two early wickets. The opening duo Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan depart scoring six and three runs respectively. The pressure builds up on the middle order batsman, but soon Carlos Brathwaite picked up the wicket of Rishabh Pant and then the wicket of Rahul.
Later, the duo Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik added some vital 38 runs to reduce the pressure for India. Just after the wicket of Pandey debutant Krunal Pandya added some quick 21 runs off nine balls to end the game within the 18th over. Krunal Pandya’s had an excellent outing on debut, and he gets to hit the winning runs. India leads the three-match T20I series 1-0.
“Didn’t apply ourselves. Never got into second or third gear. Were either too defensive or too attacking. Can see the way Keemo and Allen finished, if we had wickets in hand we would’ve got 130-140 which would’ve been a winning score. Understand the privilege to represent Windies. Don’t know what the long-term plans will be from selection panel. But had a few chats with him. For him, the world is at his feet. Will try to guide him as well as we can.”
