In the ongoing T20 series between India Women and Sri Lanka Women, India Women won the fifth T20 match convincingly by 51 runs at the FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake.

However, earlier in the day, Sri Lanka Women skipper, Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and elected to bowl first. India Women started poorly losing the first wicket of Smriti Mandhana who scored a golden duck. The captain herself did the job for her team. Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues and Mithali Raj added 27 runs for their second wicket partnership.

Moreover, India skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Rodrigues played exceptionally well to put a partnership of 75 runs for the third wicket. Kaur scored 38 balls 63 smashing five sixes and three boundaries. Meanwhile, Oshadi Ranasinghe bowled extraordinarily well and bagged three wickets in the game.

India Women, however, managed to post a total of 156 runs losing all their ten wickets in 18.3 overs.

Furthermore, while chasing down the target, Sri Lanka Women captain, Chamari Athapaththu departed scoring just a single run. They started with a poor show losing their first wicket scoring one run on the board.

However, India Women bowlers were desperate to take wickets at a regular interval. Sri Lanka Women couldn’t build up a steady partnership to build up the pressure on the opposition. Poonam Yadav bowled a superb spell of four overs and picked up three wickets while Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav each bagged two wickets each.

However, the India Women bowlers rattled Sri Lanka Women batting line picking up all their ten wickets within the eighteenth over of the game. Meanwhile, Anushka Sanjeewani scored the highest runs for her team.

Brief Scores:

India Women won the match (Harmanpreet Kaur 63, Jemimah Rodrigues 46; Shashikala Siriwardene 3/19) to Sri Lanka Women (Anushka Sanjeewani 29, Shashikala Siriwardene 22; Poonam Yadav 3/18) by 51 runs.
