Injured David Warner Refused Scan On Thumb In Fear Of Being Ruled Out Of Boxing Day Test

Australia opener David Warner was a big doubt for the ongoing Boxing Day Test against New Zealand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The star opener had injured his thumb while batting in the nets on Monday, just three days before the start of the game. The injury looked serious as he was seen with his hand strapped.
But David Warner went on to play the game. And it has now been revealed that all was not well with his hand and he played through the pain barrier. The opener himself revealed that he refused to get x-ray scan done on his hand as he was scared it would rule him out of the Test. The 33-year-old admitted his hand was ‘quite sore’ although he managed to score 41 in the first innings.
“Once adrenaline kicks in you don’t feel anything,” David Warner told SEN Cricket on Friday.
“Scans and X-rays only rule you out, they don’t rule you in, so there was no chance in the world I was going for an X-ray,” he added.

Struggle against New Zealand:
David Warner, nonetheless, has struggled to get going in the ongoing series against New Zealand. After starting the home season in a stunning manner, the left-handed batsman has not managed to deliver as per expectation. In the first Test in Perth, he managed just 43 and 19 before being dismissed for 41 in the ongoing game.
David Warner had come in the series on the back of a stunning outing in the two-Test series against Pakistan. In Brisbane, he scored 154 before slamming an unbeaten 335 against the visitors. However, he has not managed to deliver in the same manner against New Zealand. Fortunately for Australia, David Warner’s modest returns have not hurt their chances much. They won the series-opener with ease and have now posted 467 in Melbourne.
