Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan is all set to miss the series against Zimbabwe after a flare up of his long-standing finger injury. The allrounder aggravated the injury  on his left little finger during the ongoing Asia Cup. Consequently, he missed the do-or-die Super Four Asia Cup match against Pakistan on Wednesday (September 26). And on the same day, he left for Bangladesh, thus bringing an end to his participation in the continental championship.

Shakib is now likely to go under the knives. As a result, he will remain on the sidelines that will see him miss the home series against Zimbabwe, starting October 21.

“He will be out for four to six weeks,” Akram Khan, BCB’s cricket operations chairman told reporters. “The pain had increased over the last few days. The physio  tried his best to get him on the field, but the pain was too much. I would like to thank Shakib for playing [the first four matches] with the pain he had.”

Shakib had sustained the injury on his hand during the tri-series final, involving Zimbabwe, against Sri Lanka in January this year.

He had to leave the field mid-way, and could not take any further part in the final. The 31-year old also missed the following two-match Test series and two T20Is against Sri Lanka. Shakib joined the squad halfway through the Nidahas Trophy in March.

He also played against Afghanistan and West Indies but later stated that he might miss the Asia Cup to undergo operation. Not surprisingly, his comments to skip the important tournament drew widespread reaction.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan had made it clear the board is not thinking about letting Shakib skip the tournament. Hasan had said the BCB would rather have Shakib operated on his finger during the Zimbabwe series than during the Asia Cup.
