Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Deepak Chahar is confident to contribute with the bat in the playoffs stage after his recent cameo on Sunday (May 20) night against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Meanwhile, Chahar, who went to bat at number five position scored a quickfire 39 off just 20 deliveries. The bowling all-rounder clobbered the ball to all parts of the ground, hitting three towering sixes. However, Chennai as a unit didn’t had a great start losing three wickets on a trot.
The experienced Suresh Raina (61*) partnered Chahar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (16*) to see his team through.
Previously, Punjab had the worst possible start losing the first three wickets within 16 runs. Their big guns in the form of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle were already back in the hut.

However, some timely partnerships in the middle-order ensured they give something to their bowlers.
Karun Nair made amends for a bad season with a fifty while Manoj Tiwari (35) played the second handle. As a result, Punjab posted 153 runs on the board with David Miller also contributing with 24.
South Africa seamer, Lungi Ngidi, had his best game in this edition, as he returned with four for 10 in his four overs. The tall and lanky pacer was brilliant, as he derailed the Punjab batting.
Feeling Confident with the bat: Chahar
Chahar, who sustained an injury midway in the tournament, came back strongly to take his place in the first XI.
The young seamer Chahar admitted that he likes bowling in Pune as the new ball moves a bit. He also revealed that he has worked on his pace and was waiting for an opportunity.
“I got my opportunity today after a long time. I have been waiting for my chances. From the first match, I have liked bowling here. There is a bit of breeze blowing across. Today also it was a moving a bit in the initial stage. I was a swing bowler basically, but have worked on my pace for the last six years and is getting the results now,” Chahar said after the match as he was quoted by iplt20.com.
Moreover, his recent exploit with the willow has made him confident and he is looking forward doing well in the impending playoffs leg.
“It is good for the confidence; getting an opportunity to bat. Now if I get a chance to bat in the playoffs I will do good for the team,” he added.
In conclusion, Deepak Chahar said they have been waiting for this opportunity for two years and looking forward to the playoffs.
CSK will square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 on May 22 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
