Three-time IPL champion team, Mumbai Indians, will kick off the proceedings in the opening game of the season against Chennai Super Kings.
Rohit Sharma-led side is loaded with star players, and like many other teams, a major problem for Rohit will be to select playing XI.
Today, we have a look at four foreign players who might be a likely starter in Mumbai Indians’ camp:
Mitchell McClenaghan – Until a few hours back, McClenaghan was unsold in IPL auction.
Now, he looks all set to be in the playing XI of Mumbai Indians.
He went unsold in the IPL auction but has replaced an injured Jason Behrendorff in Mumbai Indians’ camp.
McClenaghan did well in previous IPL and scalped 19 wickets.
He is likely to start for Mumbai Indians who have a great bowling attack.
Lasith Malinga, who has played for the side in the past, is the bowling mentor of Mumbai Indians.
Kieron Pollard – One of the very few players to be associated with just one franchise over the years, Pollard is an automatic starter in the playing XI.
Firstly, he was retained by the team by the use of Right to match (RTM) for Rs 5.40 Crore.
Secondly, he is an all-rounder, which automatically adds to his weight.
He has been a regular in Mumbai Indians’ playing XI.
He has played 123 games for Mumbai Indians in IPL.
Had Mumbai had an option of retaining one more player ahead of IPL auction, they would have hired Pollard.
The 30-year-old will be one of the players on whom the success of the team will heavily depend.
Patrick Cummins – Since his comeback to international cricket, Cummins has done well, and his performances have seen him hitting the jackpot in IPL auctions.
This year, he was sold at an amount of Rs 5.40 Crore.
The Australian pacer seems to be a likely starter in the playing XI and might pair McClenaghan with the new ball.
Jasprit Burma is death over specialist and is only expected to come to bowl after the pair of Cummins and McClenaghan bowl few overs.
The success of the team will heavily depend on Mumbai Indians’ pace attack as well.
Evin Lewis – The highest run-scorer in T20I cricket last year, Lewis looks all set to open the innings for Mumbai Indians.
Since Rohit Sharma does not open in IPL, Lewis is the front-runner for the job in the absence of Parthiv Patel.
Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Patel in the second round.
Mumbai Indians bought Lewis for an amount of Rs 3.80 Crore.
Ishan Kishan, who was sold for a sky-rocketing amount of Rs 6.20 Crore, might pair the Windies batsman at the start.
