Chennai Super Kings off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh reckons finger spinners will be back in cricket in future.
Amongst the ongoing trend in cricket, wrist spinners have been the most effective, as they are getting bulk of the wickets in middle overs.
However, Bhajji reckons batsmen got used to playing finger spinners which is currently the drawback for them. Being a finger spinner himself, Harbhajan is undoubtedly the most successful off-spinner in IPL history.
“I think a lot of players have gotten used to playing finger spinners which is why wrist spinners have been successful of late. But I feel this is just a phase and after batsmen start reading wrist spinners well, the time of finger spinners will come again,” he said.
Harbhajan Singh is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018 after ten years association with Mumbai Indians. The veteran spinner has been quite impressive with his bowling so far and contributed heavily to Chennai’s success.
Chennai Super Kings are on a roll after their comeback into the Indian Premier League this season. They have managed to accumulate 14 points in ten games and are on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs. The team was strongly led by MS Dhoni once again, who has been playing in prime form this season.
Bhajji believes Dhoni is currently playing his best cricket and expressed his happiness for the success of his skipper.
“I think Dhoni is playing really freely. No one hits the ball better than him when he gets going. I have seen the fear in the bowlers’ eyes when they come up against him. I am really happy that he is back to his best,” said Harbhajan.
On the other hand, Ambati Rayudu has been the cornerstone for Chennai’s batting this season. He has been the primary player for the team in crisis situations, and Rayudu had delivered whenever the team needed.
Harbhajan Singh thinks his recent knocks should help him get back to the Indian team and further believes his age should not be a problem for his selection.
“Rayudu has been hitting the ball really well and winning matches for us. If someone is doing well, no matter how old he is, he deserves a chance,” he said.
Chennai Super Kings will next take on Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mann Singh Stadium, Jaipur.
Not many teams have been successful to win there in the past and Chennai would need to once again play to their best level to clinch another important victory.
